Canada's International Education Conference is THE meeting place for International Education professionals and stakeholders from across Canada and around the world.

CBIE's 2014 conference theme is The Diplomacy of Knowledge and Our Common Future. It is a concept increasingly discussed by leaders in education and public life. His Excellency David Johnston, Canada's Governor General and CBIE's Patron, links education across borders with the broader relationships between countries and regions. Knowledge diplomacy encompasses student mobility and collaborative research across borders (and across disciplines too). It has elsewhere been suggested that knowledge should contribute to a country's selection of foreign policy objectives, and that knowledge diplomacy offers the opportunity to work at all education levels in a range of fields to develop common approaches to shared global challenges. Participants will explore the meaning of the diplomacy of knowledge and its potential to impact our common future in a meaningful and timely way.

Highlights of CBIE's 2014 Annual Conference include:
-Pre-conference professional development workshops
-Opening reception
-Canada-Pacific Alliance Countries Education Forum
-Information sessions on IE priority markets
-Keynote speakers and thought leaders from around the world
-Three plenary sessions
-Over 60 concurrent sessions focusing on the following themes: International Student Advisory Services, Education Abroad, Emerging Leadership, Recruitment, Marketing and Admissions, The Diplomacy of Knowledge, and Women in Education Leadership
-International Education Fair
-Can't miss the social program including a gala dinner and entertainment

Please join us in Ottawa, Canada's capital, from November 18 to 22, 2014.

Following the success of our first event in 2013, the Embassy of Canada in Italy is organizing a Study in Canada Fair in Rome on November 6 and November 7, 2014.

November 6: open to education agents, guidance counsellors, professionals in international education, Italian secondary and post-secondary schools.

November 7: open to K-12, secondary, postsecondary students - ESL/FSL, parents.

This event is being intentionally scheduled after ICEF in Berlin (November 2-4, 2014), in order to allow Canadian institutions who may be considering travelling to Europe to best leverage their presence here and gain additional access to market opportunities.

The Fair will run on both days from 9:30am to 5:30pm at the Cavour Congress Centre http://www.icavour.it/, an exclusive venue located in the centre of Rome, close to main transportation services.

A large room (250 m2) has been reserved for Canadian institutions to display their items and meet with Italian clients; another room (seating capacity of 80) has been reserved for presentations. Canadian institutions will be offered a 15 minute time-slot for presentations, assigned on a first-come first-served basis. There will be free wi-fi on the entire floor. Refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the 2 days in a third room.

Participation is FREE for Canadian institutions.

Canadian institutions will be responsible for arranging shipment of display items to the fair venue, as well as any costs associated with coming to Rome for the event.

Visitors will be invited to meet with Canadian schools and listen to ongoing presentations on Canada as a destination of excellence for study and research abroad.

The 2013 edition of the Study in Canada Fair in Rome was extremely successful; the Fair saw the participation of 21 Canadian Schools and was attended by 400 visitors. A greater number of visitors are expected to attend the 2014 Fair.

Demand for studying abroad is expected to continue to grow due to the following factors:

-- Italians are attaching growing importance to international study and there is wider recognition by both the Italian Government and businesses of overseas study experience.

-- Exchange programs between Italian and foreign schools (K12 and post-secondary) continue to be popular and foster student mobility.

-- Employment opportunities in Italy are highly competitive and Italian students recognise the need to enhance their skills in order to improve their chances of securing professional employment.

-- Knowledge of the English language is regarded as a key requirement in finding a job.

-- Canada is growing in popularity amongst the students and it continues to be perceived as a safe and friendly country by their parents.

As a result of these factors, Italian youth are looking to go abroad in order to invest in their languages and have a more international profile that will make them stand out in the extremely competitive domestic labour markets.

The Canada Fair is therefore a great opportunity for promoting Canada's winning combination of quality education and a high standard of living, as well as the chance to showcase Canada as an alternative destination to our typical "competitors" - namely, the US, the UK and Australia.

Space is limited, therefore we encourage you to register early. Any remaining spaces after the September 6th deadline will be allocated at the discretion of the Embassy.

List of Edu-Canada Events and Market Reports are available at Edu-Canada PRO (http://www.tradecommissioner.gc.ca/edu-canadapro/index.jsp)

Further to the Brand Use Eligibility Policy jointly established by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), K-12 schools, post-secondary education institutions and language schools are invited to consult the provincial lists of eligible institutions on the Brand extranet at http://www.imagine.cmec.ca/en/zone/

If the institution is on the list, it is eligible to participate to the event. If it is not on the list, it is not eligible to participate unless there is clear and written consent of the province/territory where the institution is located.

Private schools authorized to use the curriculum of a province/territory outside of Canada are eligible to participate in the event as sponsors but will be positioned separately (in a non-branded area).

Banks, airlines and insurance companies offering services to students may participate as sponsors and will be situated in the non-branded area.

Education or immigration agents are not eligible to participate in the event, with the sole exception of agents designated by an eligible institution. In that case, agents are responsible to the institution that engaged their services and must adhere to all event guidelines and agent policy

We look forward to meeting you in Italy!

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

As part of its efforts to assist Canadian education institutions wishing to attract Chinese students, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) at Canadian missions in China, with support from the Edu-Canada Division at Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, is pleased to invite you to exhibit in the Canada Pavilion at the China Education Expo (CEE) 2014 (www.ChinaEducationExpo.com) from October 25 to November 2, 2014.

The CEE is one of the leading events dedicated to student recruitment in China. The TCS has been hosting Canada Pavilions at the CEE since 2008. Canada has had the largest presence at the last three editions. This event contributed to Canada's success in attracting close to 30,000 Chinese students to study in Canada in 2013. This year, we will continue to host a Canada Pavilion in all four CEE stops and to offer value-added activities for Canadian exhibitors at each stop.

By participating in the CEE, you will get:

- A Canada Pavilion coordinated by the Canadian Embassy and Consulates which enhance the profile of participating brand eligible institutions.
- A welcome area supported by embassy/consulate staff
- Booths decorated with Imagine: Education au/in Canada brand that offers increased visibility.
- Additional media promotion support via social media and mobile APPs
- A TCS and CIC Market Briefing introducing growing trends in the student recruitment market in China
- Access a variety of exclusive activities organized by the TCS on the margin of the CEE to maximize your recruitment results.

The TCS has secured a block of exhibition space for a branded Pavilion. However, booth availability is limited, and we expect demand will be high. To reserve a booth for your institution in the Canada Pavilion, please complete the online registration at:

67 institutions from 7 provinces from across Canada participated in the 5th Annual Canada Education Week (CEW) in 2013. Canadian institutions had direct access to close to 2,000 visitors at three education fairs in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Can Tho City, participated in institution-agent meetings, market opportunity briefing, briefing by the international development officer, visa briefings for clients and agents, and networked with key Vietnamese education contacts.

Results from our client survey indicated that clients found the Canada Education Week either "excellent" or "very good" and that they would return for future Canada Education Weeks.

The Canada Education Week is proving to be an important tool in branding Canada as the destination of choice for Vietnamese students looking to study abroad. It has also become one of the largest education fairs organized by the Government of Canada.

Note: Canadian institutions should not take the fairs as the only channels to recruit students as other marketing activities should be implemented as well to achieve objectives. ]]>

The date of these events (September 30 - October 10) were chosen to allow institutions to also participate in other education events taking place in the region during the same time period, including the Edu-Canada Education Fair in Brazil (Imagine Estudar no Canada) from September 27-28, 2014.
